No Chance To Say Goodbye

Remastered 256k MP3s of the 1998 album No Chance To Say Goodbye have been posted in the Promise Table Music Library.  Enjoy.

No Chance is a story of loss and eventual acceptance.  Most of the music is heavy and ethereal - almost ambient.  In contrast to Salamander, I was intentionally going for a "more is more" approach, so I added layer after layer of synth pads and a lot of reverbs for a sound reminiscent of Enigma's second and third albums.

Remastering No Chance, Part 2

Rendering 256k MP3s of No Chance tonight.  This material wasn’t mixed very well.  I’ve always felt the mixes were muddy in the lows and lower midrange, but getting the tracks off of the original ADAT tapes to remix them is not very practical - if not downright impossible.  I’ve done the best I can with what I’ve got.  As with the other remasters, I did not try to master them excessively loud.

Remastering No Chance

Started working on remastering No Chance To Say Goodbye today.  I wish I could remix it but getting the tracks off of the original ADAT tapes now would be pretty miraculous.

Shallow and Uneducated (1.11)

Social commentary about young whippersnappers (and their parents) destroying the country with their absent-mindedness. Apologies to 'Amused to Death.'

Slack-eyed teens sitting on the couch
Wasted brains eating from a pouch
YouTube generations stalk the malls
Human evolution stalls

Lemming lines lead us off the cliffs
Puppet masters, walking stiffs
Leaders more like entertainers, hey!
The new American way

Shallow and uneducated
Simple and uncomplicated
That’s what the kids like
That’s what the kids want
Amusement captives all

Glass-eyed parents with no follow through
Breeding more kids without a clue
Teaching generations not to care
Roman Empires despair

Shallow and uneducated
Simple and uncomplicated
That’s what kids like
That’s what the kids want
Amusement captives all

TV stars, paparazzi cars
Gossip girls, a narcissistic world
The worst become the most famous few
The best ignored, just swept from view

Shallow and uneducated
Simple and uncomplicated
That’s what the kids like
That’s what the kids want
Amusement captives

Shallow and uneducated
Simple and uncomplicated
That’s what the kids like
That’s what the kids want
Amusement captives

Shallow and uneducated
Simple and uncomplicated
That’s what the world likes
That’s what the world wants
Amusement captives all

Two Partied Out (1.26)

This was originally intended to be part of a concept album about a staunch partisan's son breaking family tradition and running as an independent. Apologies to Dennis Kucinich.

Take a look at the future of our country
It’s an aristocracy disguised
Two parties rule the population
Television leaves ‘em paralyzed

We gotta change the system
Before we lose our freedom
Educate the people
We’re two-partied out

We’re two-partied out
Drive the cancer out
Spread the word about
That we’re two-partied out

Celebrate the country of our fathers
Now their sacrifices are in vain
Mediocrity is all you see here
Government exclusion is to blame

We gotta stop the system
Before we lose our freedom
Educate the people
We’re two-partied out

We’re two-partied out
Kick the cancer out
Spread the word about
That we’re two-partied out

Party chairmen run our lives
Take our money, taking sides
Party chairmen take our pride
Two party system must die

We’re two-partied out
Vote the cancer out
Spread the word about
That we’re two-partied out
